This project weighed heavily on the site analysis phase: beggining with a deep mapping exersize and program charette. My deep map takes a new materialist approach to the landscape of Mexican Hat. My aim was to confront the corralling of complex material interactions and reactions into graphics. The zine aims to break from active rationalism involved in map making- a practice dedicated to points of interest and boundaries. How do we define a body, like that of a river or hillside without shape? This question drives the visuals of my zine. The research and creative work involved in the deep mapping exersize informed my choice to develop my program into an artist residency. My program charette hypothesizes a set of movable private studios and how those might integrate with the larger program of the project.
